Hello Families! I sincerely hope you all had a wonderful week! I was able to spend some much needed time with my little family over the long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed my days at Teacher's Convention. As we get ready to jump into March, here are a few updates and requests for you:
As part of our nutrition unit in Health we will be creating a Food Group Train and need food flyers to help complete it. If you could send in any grocery store flyers you may have in your recycling I'd really appreciate it! We will be starting the project on Thursday so any I could get my hands on before then would be great!
We are beginning our Building Things unit in Science. During this unit students will be experimenting with different materials to build various items such as mini furniture, boats, bridges, structures with hinges etc.
I'd love to take your recycling! Any empty boxes (pasta boxes, cereal boxes, cracker boxes...) small plastic containers, lids, egg cartons, plastic cups, styrofoam, metal lids, cans, empty and clean plastic bottles... ... the possibilities are endless!
These things can be brought in any time this week.
Dr. Suess Day and Galt Museum!
Thursday is Dr. Suess Day at MMH School. If your child would like to dress up as a Dr. Suess character they sure can. The grade one teachers have their costumes ready to go!
If you have any Dr. Suess books at home please send them in with your child this week and we will read them in class! Be sure the books are labelled with your child's name so we can get them home safely.
Our class will be missing the Spirit Assembly that day however as we will be at a field trip to the Galt Museum. Please let me know ASAP if you can volunteer to help out on this fieldtrip as I still need at least two more volunteers. You can meet us at the school or can ride the bus. We will be leaving at about 9am and will return to the school by 11am.
Report Cards and Celebration of Learning
Report cards will be available to view online on March 13. The evening of March 16 will be our Celebration of Learning. Families can sign up (info available soon) to come in with their child to celebrate! Your child will have work available for you to view and you'll be able to participate in a few activities with your child in the classroom so they can show you what they know! If you require a formal interview with me there will be slots available on Friday morning. Please let me know if this is something you feel you need. There is no school on Friday, March 17 due to these interviews.
Please be sure your child has a water bottle at school. Students are welcome to leave them at school or take them home each day. All water bottles are sent home each Friday.
Please remind your child that they are to head out to the playground if you are dropping them off at school prior to the bell at 8:15am. Supervision starts on the playground at 8am and it is the safest place for your child to be. In the case of very cold or wet weather the supervisor will invite students into the boot rooms to wait for the bell.
Hot Lunch is this Tuesday for all that ordered!
Please let me know if your child's RAZ kids level needs to be adjusted. You are also welcome to borrow paper books from our classroom at any time. Reading appropriately leveled books each night is SO important!
Thanks so much!
