Collection for the Food Bank

Part of the Grade One Social Studies Curriculum is an introduction to responsible citizenship and community.  As a result our classroom in participating in a school wide drive for the Lethbridge Food Bank.  We will be keeping a runny tally of how many items our classroom collects.  The classroom that collects the most items by October 26 will have the privilege of helping load the food bank truck!  Please continue to bring in items over the coming weeks and be sure your child understands WHY they are bringing the items in.  Thanks so much!

Sight Words

We continue to work hard on new sight words.  This week we have shifted our focus a bit and are learning to read our number words 0-10.  A great way to practice is to put them on flash cards and have your child match the number words to numerals.  If you'd like me to provide you with flashcards to use at home please don't hesitate to ask!

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes are October 17.  Please let me know if your child is needing retakes.

RAZ Kids

What an overwhelmingly positive response to RAZ Kids!  I'm so glad your child is enjoying the program.  Just a reminder to please record the title of the book your child reads each night.  I can check the website but it's much easier for me to just quickly glance in the agenda.  Please also let me know when you feel your child needs a bit more of a challenge and we can try moving up a level.  Thanks so much for supporting your child!

No School Reminders

Just a reminder that school will dismiss at 11:35am on October 20 and there is NO SCHOOL on October 21 due to Professional Learning Days.

Halloween Helpers

If you would like to spend the afternoon with us on October 31 please let me know.  I know I'll be grateful for the help getting costumes on and children ready for the parade.  Following the parade we will have some halloween centers set up (crafts etc.), will have a party snack and will finish off the day with clean up and a Halloween video.  Please let me know if you'd like to come join in the fun!  Siblings are welcome.  :)
